When you look at this elm salt/spice box you almost think the wood has a marbled look about it. But no matter how you describe the natural color of this wood you need to include beautiful. The wood was sealed with a food grade walnut oil so you may use it with total confidence. The finish was done with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac at about a 50/50 mix. Mixing it this was lets you still feel the grain in the wood. All of this combined gives the box a nice hard long lasting natural finish. This finish is renewable with your regular olive oil. Easy care instructions are included. The outside diameter is 3 ¼” with the inside lip measuring 2 ¾”. The total height is 3 ½” and the vessel height is 2 ½” and a vessel depth of 2”. The volume measures at ¾ cup. Certainly one of a kind so don’t wait too long on it. 30Aug17 BXE15

Roll out the barrel. I like this very much. Elm is always a lovely wood and I think any turning done properly as you do my friend will look gorgeous. The lid is turned beautifully and adds to the shape of the box. The burnt lines around the body and the lid really does give it the finishing touch. A well turned and beautiful Box. Also I really like how you have finished the inside of the lid, a lot better I think than leaving it concave. Well done Dave another winner.
ReplyDeleteHowdy! Howdy! Like you I do like elm. Rather hard to be. I'm trying different things on the lids to try and get away from leaving some kind of tenon in them. Added some new jaws for one of the Nova chucks and seems to be helping in this. Glad you liked it.
