When you look at this jar turned from Red Oak you see some interesting grain patters as well as colors. When I was sanding this jar I purposely left the inside not as smooth as I did the outside. This was to give the jar a bit more of a rustic appeal. Now you may put anything you wish in this jar as the wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and finished with two coats of a walnut oil based wax. Using this type of finish gives the jar a nice hard long lasting natural finish that allows you to still feel the grain in the wood. You will find the diameter at 6” with a height of 5” and a depth of 2 ½”. The volume measures at 3 cups up to the brim. The lid is inset for a better seal though certainly not airtight. Ideal for putting your favorite nuts in as well as candies. Enjoy and take advantage of this one of a kind treasure! 11Nov17 BXRO28 For more info see:

Oak is one of my all time favourite woods which I used to turn. It is a very strong wood which will take a variety of different finishes, I used to like staining mine. You my friend have done a lovely job with this bowl. The lid is nicely done which fits nicely on top of the bowl. Overall a nicely turned and finished bowl.
ReplyDeleteHi Les! Thanks for the comments. Yeah, you can't go wrong with oak of any kind. Glad you like it!
