Nicely Spalted Elm Serving Bowl


This is for sure a very nice looking bowl.  I love these medium sized serving bowls that have a relatively high volume capacity.  This one holds 7 cups to the brim.  I tried real hard to get it to a full half gallon but it just was not to be.  Simple lines with a slight flare at the base make this elm bowl an eye catcher.  The diameter is 9 ½” with a height of 3 ½” and a depth of 2 ½”.  You can’t say that the spalting lines in this bowl don’t make it really stand out.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  The mix was just heavy enough with the shellac to give the bowl some sheen.  Using this combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  13Dec17  BLE61 For more info see:
