Now ain’t this a nice little gem of
a bowl? It has all kinds of things going
for it. Nice natural colors, good grain
patterns, spalting that really adds to the piece, it’s multisided and it is
also a pedestal bowl. What more would
you ask for? No one is gonna tell you
that you must put either nuts or candy in this bowl. Use it as a catch all bowl sitting on a
sideboard. Lots of uses and it is very
lightweight as well being turned from hackberry. The diameter is about 6” with a height of 4
¼” and a depth of 1 ¾” measured to the lower sides. The volume measured to 1 ½ cups. The wood was sealed with a couple of coats of
food grade walnut oil. Then the bowl was
finished with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac. This combination gives the bowl a nice hard
long lasting natural finish.

This is a lovely piece of woodturning. Lovely colouration and the shape is very very nice. You have my friend done a very nice multi sided bowl. I like how you have shaped the sides right down to the narrow end where the base is. The base is the right size for this little gem. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Les! Hackberry is a nice looking wood, isn't it? Appreciate the comments on the shape. Just came to me so I decided to try it. Take care, my friend!
