White Oak 2 Tier Dish

Talking about rustic looking and multipurpose, this 2 tier dish is amazing.  Turned from rugged looking white oak, it can be looked at being an accomplishment to finish this piece.  Not only rugged looking, white oak is rugged to turn.  Warm natural colors, knot holes, and odd and end natural wood blemishes, this has it all.  On the top tier there is even a knot hole that goes all the way through.  So if you put anything real tiny in the top tier it might fall through and land in the bottom tier.  The upper diameter is 3 ½” with a depth of about ½”.  The bottom diameter is 6 ¼” with a depth of around ½”.  The total height is 3 ¾”.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  A combination such as this gives the dish a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  16Mar19  SDWO3

  1. You have done an excellent job of turning this from one piece of wood, even more so because it being Oak which can be hard to turn. I have always loved the colour and grain structure of Oak. I also love item that are rustic and this is a winner as far as I am concerned. Well done my friend. Bye the way the last picture if you turned the top to make it look rounded, hey presto you would have a toadstool. Just a thought.

  2. HeHe. I was wondering if anyone was going to notice that. You are the first to mention the toadstool or mushroom look of that last shot. Wasn't intentional, but it worked out that way. Take care, my good friend!
