Now here is something that you don’t
see everyday! A pecan wood bowl with
flared wings like this will look good on any table. Fill it with your favorite treats whether it
is fruits and nuts or candies. Though
not meant to be a serving bowl, it does hold 4 cups of liquid before it ran
over the low side. The minor cracks that
you see were filled with clear glue and natural dust to keep things looking as
close as possible to the way Mamma Nature wants them. The length is 11 ½” with a width of 7
¾”. The high end is 4 ¼” and the low
side is 3”. The depth is 2”. This bowl was a bit hazardous to turn with
the flared wings. But, it certainly was
fun. The wood was sealed with food grade
walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. Using a combination like this gives the bowl
a nice hard long lasting natural finish.

Magnificent Pecan Wood Centerpiece Pedestal Bowl
Turned from naturally beautiful
pecan wood, you have all the elegance in this bowl that you could ask for. If you took this bowl and put it in the
center of your table, folks are gonna be impressed. Simply impressed and are wanna know where you
got it. The grain patterns in this wood,
along with the colors make it really stand out.
The bowl has it’s own natural defects in the wood that I may have
reinforced, but left looking as natural as possible. The diameter is a whopping 10” with a height
of 5 ¼” and a depth of 3 ¼”. The volume
measured to ¾ gallon. The bowl held
water for measuring just fine. The wood
was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a mix of walnut
oil and shellac. This combination gives
the bowl a nice hard natural finish that will last a long time. 25Sep19

Been planning on doing this for some time and finally broke down, spent the money, and bought some new power tools for my wood turning shop. First and foremost was a new and heavy duty lathe.
Then came a new band saw.
Of course one must have a new air compressor!
Also decided to add a knife and tool belt sharpener/grinder. Gonna have to take a better photo of this. Sorry.
And, seeing my large old Stihl 440 Magnum finally bit the dust, it needed a replacement for larger log cuts. So, here is the new addition to the chain saws. A Stihl 311.

Unique & Gorgeous Pecan Wood Jar
This jar is
definitely uniquely shaped. Straight
sides with a nice flare at the base.
What could be better? Straight
sides on the inside, that’s what. And
you have it here with a flat bottom.
Please don’t ask for more on this one because I don’t have a clue as to
what else to add. OK? All wood was sealed with a food grade walnut
oil, taking 2 coats. Then after sanding
it all again it the jar was finished with a walnut oil and shellac
mixture. Using a combination like this
gives the jar a nice hard long lasting natural finish. The base diameter is 7” with the lip diameter
being at 6”. The total height is 5” with
the vessel height being 3 ¼”. The vessel
depth is 2 ¼” and the volume came to 4 cups.
Load this jar up with nuts or candies.
I am sure there are all kinds of tasty treats you might come up
with. Or, use it as a jar to hold all
kinds of treasures like jewelry.

Luscious 8 1/4" Layered Wood Bowl
Luscious? Oh, yeah!
No doubt about it. You might even
go as far as to say WOW! This multi-wood
bowl is going to be a bowl that someone out there is looking for. The center layer is bodark (osage orange),
then white oak, pecan, cedar elm, and then more pecan on the outside. The layers after being bonded to each other
by wood glue stayed clamped together for 3 days. This insures a good bond and that it doesn’t
come apart while turning or while in use.
The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a
walnut oil/shellac mixture. This
combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish. The bowl measures 8 ¼” in diameter, 3” high
and 2 ¼” deep. The volume measured at 5
cups to the brim. Certainly one of a
kind so don’t wait too long. 4Aug19 BLLW3

Colorful Cedar Elm Pedestal Bowl
Every time I look at one of my
turnings from cedar elm I am amazed at the natural colors of this wood. Truly remarkable. This nice bowl is just right for candies,
nuts and other tasty treats. Some folks
may decide to have it sitting on a sideboard as a catch all bowl for keys and
change. It does hold a fair amount as
the volume came to 3 cups. That’s a lot
of pistachios, mixed nuts, or M&M’s!
The diameter of the bowl is 7” with a height of 4”. The depth came to 2 ¾”. There is even a little knot in the bowl, but
not to worry. The bowl does hold water
just fine. The wood was sealed with food
grade walnut oil and then the finishing was done with a walnut oil/shellac
mixture. Using the combination such as
that gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish. 26Jul19
