When a turner finishes a larger piece like this stand, they usually want to celebrate a little. Why? Because they can be difficult to do. I know they look rather simple and straightforward, but that is not the case. I was gonna apologize for the photos having fake fruit on the stand instead of a fake cake, but never mind. Now I could have called this stand lovely, or beautiful, luscious and many other words. But I don’t think they are appropriate. This is simply some of the best looking wood you can find. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil. There were a couple of minor cracks that occur when drying that were filled with clear glue and natural dust. Then it was finished with a mixture of shellac, walnut oil, and walnut oil based wax. It’s a Dave Secret on why I did the finishing that way. And using a combination such as that gives the stand a nice hard long lasting natural finish. You will find there is a graduated dip from the lip to the center to reduce slippage of about ¼”. The diameter is 13” with a height of 3 ¾” and a base diameter of 5 ½”. The base diameter should give the stand all the stability you need. 9Jan17 SDP52 For more info see:
