Cottonwood has such great coloration to
it. The light and dark colors meld
together so well, it makes you not want to put anything in the bowl. You just want to look at the wood. Lightweight yet durable, this wood was quite
popular in America with the westward migration. When settlers were traveling west, when they
saw cottonwood trees they knew there was water.
They used the wood for plates, bowls, utensils, furniture and other
useful items. This bowl is 9 ½” in
diameter, 3” high, and 2 ¼” deep. The
volume measured to 6 cups. The bowl does
hold liquids so feel free to use it for pretty much anything. You will also find a nice handling lip midway
up the sides. The wood was sealed with
food grade walnut oil and then finished with a mixture of walnut oil, shellac,
and walnut oil based wax. This bowl has
a certain rustic appeal to it with the natural colors and wood defects that are
natural with this wood. You will find
some burring areas that are inherent with this wood. This just adds to the appeal of the

I love the colouration to this cottonwood bowl it reminds me of items that have aged over time. Once again nice clean simple shape, you cannot beat simplicity at times.
