Accidents happen now and then while
turning wood. Something on this bowl
that came out to be a really nice addition is a really good accident! That’s the dark line at the rim. I am not 100% sure just how it happened while
sanding, but I can only guess the sandpaper did it and I am not gonna
complain. Looks pretty good. Another nice feature about this bowl is the
knothole on the inside filled with crushed powdered turquoise. The bowl measures 8 ¾” in diameter, 2 ¾” in
height, and 2 ¼” in depth. The capacity
of this bowl measures at 5 cups. Not
bad, not bad at all! The wood was sealed
with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. This combination gives the bowl a nice hard
long lasting natural finish. Grab this
one. Don’t let it get away. A one of a kind bowl, for sure. 2Aug18

Love it. Yes accidents usually mean a trip to hospital or the wood to the rubbish pile, but on occasions like yours, well magnifico, beautiful turned bowl. The black line is a friction burn probably by the edge of your sandpaper. I like how you have filled the knothole with the blue powder, gives it an added feature which makes it that more attractive. Nicely turned bowl Dave.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Les! Yeah, I'm sure it was a friction burn from the paper as well as possibly my glove! Sure got hot real fast. But it worked out and that's what counts. Glad you like it as well. The turquoise just seemed right for this bowl. Take it easy my friend!
