This bowl is without any doubt nice
looking. It has a fairly large volume (6
cups) with a relatively small footprint.
Considering that it will not take up a lot of space on your dining
table. After all the diameter is only 9
¾” with a height of 4” and a depth of 3”.
That will hold a pretty fair amount of salad or other goodies. Use it for serving veggies or as a display
bowl for fruits and nuts. This bowl is
kinda hard to go wrong with, ya know?
The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil which took 2 coats rubbed
in. Then the bowl was finished with a
mix of walnut oil and shellac with the mix being about 75% shellac. After adequate drying the bowl was buffed at
high speed. Using a sealing and
finishing combination like this the bowl has a nice hard long lasting natural
finish. Great bowl as a gift or get it
for yourself and make folks jealous!

Cute 3 Corner Pecan Bowl
A lot of people will call this 3
corner bowl cute. OK. It’s cute.
It’s rustic. What more can you ask
for? Oh, yeah. It’s turned from pecan wood. To tell a little secret on myself, this is
actually sort of a failure. This was
going to be a 3 cornered jar, but the lid material did not work out so it
became a bowl. This extremely
lightweight bowl is great for putting your pistachios in or other tasty nuts or
other treats. When you add the knot
holes and grain pattern of this wood, you just cannot go wrong. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut
oil. The finishing was done with a mix
of walnut oil and shellac, light on the shellac for a more subtle sheen. Then it was buffed. The diameter is 6” with a height of 3 ½” and
a depth of 2” measured to the lowest point on the side. The volume measured at 1 ½ cups. Don’t pass this up! 26Nov18

Eye Pleasing 5 Sided White Oak Bowl
I think most folks will agree that
this smallish sized bowl is definitely easy on the eyes. The natural color of white oak is rather
amazing in it’s own right. The grain
patterns along with a couple of really small knot holes add so much to this
bowl besides the fact that it is 5 sided.
This wood can be extremely unforgiving while working with it, yet it
does polish up nicely. The wood that
this bowl came from was a burl, so that made it doubly harder to work
with. The wood was sealed with food
grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mix. This combination gives the bowl a nice hard
long lasting natural finish. The base
has a small footprint which a lot of folks really like. The general diameter is 8” with a height of 2
¾” and depth of 2”. The volume measured
at 3 cups. Great bowl for nuts or even
candy. Some might use it as a catch all
bowl for keys and change and such.

8" Pecan Wood Natural Edge Bowl
There comes a time when you see
something, you just gotta say “Wow!”.
And, you hear other say “How Rustic Looking!”. This natural edge bowl turned out of
beautiful pecan wood fits all of those descriptions. And with it’s holding capacity measuring to
the lowest side point of 5 cups that is a pretty large amount for this type of
bowl. It does hold liquids though it was
not designed for that purpose. This is a
great piece to have on your table for displaying nuts and fruits and all kinds
of tasty treats. I am not gonna mention
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. OK? Not gonna mention them. UhUh.
The diameter of the bowl is 8” with a base diameter of 6”. The highest wall point is 5 ¾” and the lowest
comes to 4 ¼”. The depth measured to the
lowest point is 3”. The bark was
reinforced with clear glue and shellac to try and keep it in place. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut
oil. The finishing was done with a
walnut oil and shellac mixture and then it was all buffed. For a more rustic and natural appeal I mixed
the finish heavier on the walnut oil for a more satin like sheen. You can also feel the grain in the wood. 24Nov18

Cottonwood Pedestal Bowl
We all see bowls of one kind or
another everyday, I think. A lot of them
are from manmade materials and are simply put, just bowls. But, now and then we see one that is rather remarkable. This bowl turned from cottonwood falls into
that category. Not overly large in
diameter (10 ¼”), it is still of a decent capacity of holding ¾ gallon measured
to the brim. With a height of 4 ¾” and a
depth of 3 ¼”, all combined make this bowl remarkable. Lest we forget the gorgeous natural colors of
this wood. The light and dark colors
really make it stand out. Whether you
use it as a serving bowl or a display bowl for nuts and fruits, you will be
proud to have this bowl sitting on your table.
Friends and family are gonna comment about it as well. The wood was sealed with two coats of food
grade walnut oil. The finishing was done
with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac.
Then the bowl was buffed with super fine steel wool. Get this for yourself or even for a good
friend or family member. 21Nov18 BLCW98

Fat Pecan Wood Jar
OK. I know I
called it a fat jar, and that may not be exactly right. But, it is fatter in the middle than it is
the base so maybe I can get away with it this time. I promise not to call another jar fat. Maybe.
Anyway if nothing else it is beautiful as it was turned from pecan
wood. While turning the lid I uncovered
an interesting looking flaw and decided to keep it. Adds a lot to the character of the jar I
think. I normally do a bit bulkier knob
on the lid but I a good friend of mine in England keeps telling me I need to do
skinnier knobs. So, here one is. The wood was sealed using food grade walnut
oil. The inside was finished using a
walnut oil based wax taking two coats.
The outside was finished using a walnut oil/shellac mixture. All of these give the jar a nice natural long
lasting finish. The outside diameter is
5” and the inside is 4”. The total
height is 6 ¼” with a vessel height of 4 ¾” and vessel depth of 4”. The volume measured to be 2 ½ cups. That’s a fair amount of pistachios. Then again you might fill it with almonds, or
even M&M’s. Gotta get them in the
write up, ya know? 19Nov18 BXP94
