There comes a time when you see
something, you just gotta say “Wow!”.
And, you hear other say “How Rustic Looking!”. This natural edge bowl turned out of
beautiful pecan wood fits all of those descriptions. And with it’s holding capacity measuring to
the lowest side point of 5 cups that is a pretty large amount for this type of
bowl. It does hold liquids though it was
not designed for that purpose. This is a
great piece to have on your table for displaying nuts and fruits and all kinds
of tasty treats. I am not gonna mention
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. OK? Not gonna mention them. UhUh.
The diameter of the bowl is 8” with a base diameter of 6”. The highest wall point is 5 ¾” and the lowest
comes to 4 ¼”. The depth measured to the
lowest point is 3”. The bark was
reinforced with clear glue and shellac to try and keep it in place. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut
oil. The finishing was done with a
walnut oil and shellac mixture and then it was all buffed. For a more rustic and natural appeal I mixed
the finish heavier on the walnut oil for a more satin like sheen. You can also feel the grain in the wood. 24Nov18

Yes I am gonna say it WOW, WOW, there you go I said it twice, but seriously this is a very hard type of bowl turning to do ( possible skin off knuckles, wood flying in all directions etc ). Rustic yes I have said it again, but it is and I just love rustic turnings. Dave you have done a great job with this bowl, it has a nice shape and a nice base which compliments the bowl. 100% well done.
ReplyDeleteI think it is safe to say you like it. Right??? hehe I really do try not to lose any hide while doing these bowls. Not always successful, either. Take it easy, my friend!
