One thing you have to admit about
hackberry is it always gives you a very interesting looking bowl. Look at all of the spalting lines that with
this bowl along with the grain pattern.
It’s just very difficult to beat that look, isn’t it? And the best thing about all of that is it is
a gift of Mamma Nature. Another nice
thing about this bowl is it has very simple lines which to me can be the most
marvelous looking. Also, it has what I
call a small footprint, meaning it is not overly large in diameter yet it has a
pretty high volume. After all this bowl
holds a half gallon measured to the brim.
The wood was sealed after some finite sanding with food grade walnut
oil. Then it was finished with a mixture
of walnut oil and shellac, very heavy on the shellac. A combination like that gives the bowl a nice
hard long lasting natural finish. The
diameter of the bowl is 9 ¼” with a height of 3 ½” and the depth measures at
3”. The weighs only 1 ½ pounds. Great bowl for serving veggies or salads
in. You might even be used as a
centerpiece bowl displaying fruits and nuts and other goodies. 20Apr19

Spalted Hackberry bowl I just love it, now this to me is a bowl that as you saying WOW. Unique, you would never get another bowl the same as this even if you turned it from the same wood. You can not beat mother nature to give you something like this, apart from the talents of the woodturner to bring out its hidden beauty. My friend you have done a really nicely turned bowl.
ReplyDeleteI gotta say WOW to your comments, Les! Thanks. I was pleased with the way this one came out. Happy you feel the same on it.
