Ornate Winged Cedar Elm Bowl

If you are looking for an unusual centerpiece bowl, here it is.  If it needs to be different in shape, but hold a fair amount, look no further.  This winged bowl turned from cedar elm, also known as Texas Elm is really naturally beautiful.  So the word ornate describes it well.  The grain pattern and the tiny knot holes just add to the beauty and rustic appeal of this bowl.  It measures 9” long, 7 ¼” wide, 3” high and has a depth of 2 ¼”.  The volume measured at 4 cups to the brim.  But go ahead and pile the nuts and candies until they fall off the top!  OK.  Small fruits, peppers, little tomatoes, and other tasty treats as well.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil.  The bowl was finished with a glossy micro-crystalline wax.  It holds up well to usage.  15May19  BLCE7

Gracious Cedar Elm Pedestal Bowl

This is the first piece of cedar elm that I have turned in quite some time.  A lot of folks say they have never heard of the wood, but it is quite prevalent in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and a few other states.  It is also known as Texas Elm.  This bowl has some natural defects in it that I felt needed to stay for rustic appearance.  You will find some cracks that I reinforced with clear glue and natural dust and some blemishes in the wood.  The bowl does hold liquids to the amount of 3 cups.  The diameter is 6 ¾” with a height of 3” and a depth of 2 inches.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  This gives the bowl a nice hard natural finish that you may use with confidence.    13May19  BLCE6

Gorgeous Pecan Wood Winged Pedestal Bowl

Is it OK if I give this bowl a big WOW???  I think it kinda deserves it, don’t you?  Just look at the natural colors, grain pattern and to add a bit of extra rustic flavor a fantastic looking crack in the shape of a fish hook.  The crack was filled in layers with clear glue and natural dust so it should never cause a problem of any kind.  On the bottom is what I believe is a knot hole gone a bit crazy.  Cool looking, too.  The length of this piece is 9 ½” and the width is 6 ¾”.  The height is 2 ½” and the depth was measured at 1 ¼” at the low side.  The volume is about 2” measured to the same low side.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with several coats of shellac.  Using these ingredients gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  The pecan bowl will not last long.  6May19  BLP213  $37.50

Pecan Wood Pastry Stand w/ Bottom Dish

This stand out of beautiful pecan wood is a first.  I have done several pastry/cupcake stands, but this one has a dish or tray on the bottom.  Hopefully more like this will be coming.  The natural colors of this wood make it a great piece to have anywhere in your house.  The top diameter is 7 ¾”, the bottom diameter is 6”.  The total height is 4 ¼”.  The depth of the bottom dish or tray is ½”.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with straight shellac.  Using a combination like this gives the sand a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  5May19  SDP60

Small Spalted Hackberry Bowl

This is such a neat sized bowl, you will find all kinds of things to use it for.  After all it is 7” in diameter, 3 ¾” high and has a depth of 3”.  The base has a nice flair to it for decorative purposes.  And, just so you will know it holds 4 cups measured to the brim.  The spalting in this bowl is typical of hackberry.  You add that to the grain pattern and the minor pits that the wood has and you have a rustic classic!  Use it for nuts and candies, fruits, or even as a small serving bowl.  I think it’s attractive enough to sit on anybody’s table.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with several coats of a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  Using a combination such as this gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  29Apr19  BLHB74

Marvelously Spalted Hackberry Serving Bowl

One thing you have to admit about hackberry is it always gives you a very interesting looking bowl.   Look at all of the spalting lines that with this bowl along with the grain pattern.  It’s just very difficult to beat that look, isn’t it?  And the best thing about all of that is it is a gift of Mamma Nature.  Another nice thing about this bowl is it has very simple lines which to me can be the most marvelous looking.  Also, it has what I call a small footprint, meaning it is not overly large in diameter yet it has a pretty high volume.  After all this bowl holds a half gallon measured to the brim.  The wood was sealed after some finite sanding with food grade walnut oil.  Then it was finished with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac, very heavy on the shellac.  A combination like that gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  The diameter of the bowl is 9 ¼” with a height of 3 ½” and the depth measures at 3”.  The weighs only 1 ½ pounds.  Great bowl for serving veggies or salads in.  You might even be used as a centerpiece bowl displaying fruits and nuts and other goodies.  20Apr19  BLHB73
