Small & Colorful White Oak Bowl

White Oak gives off a really nice warm and rustic feeling, doesn’t it?  The wonderful brown with a touch of lighter color really make this a beautiful bowl.  And, when you add the crushed turquoise into the knot hole area and a crack, you really have something exquisite here!  Though it is not an overly big bowl, it certainly has many uses.  Use it for fruits and nuts or candies or even a catch all bowl for keys and change.  Anyway you go with it this bowl will look good.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil.  Then the finishing was done with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac with some walnut oil based wax added for a really durable natural finish.  The bowl is 8 ½” in diameter, 2 ½” high, and 1 ¾” deep.  The volume measures out to 3 ½ cups.  Not bad, not bad at all.  2Oct18  BLWO13

Moving A Bit Slow

I am having to go slow for now.  Can't work at all until tomorrow, October 1st.  The 28th of September had spinal steroid injections into my lower back to help relieve the pain I've been putting up with for some time.  I do have 4 discs in the lower back giving me fits, so this should help.  So, I am supposed to get back into the usual routine starting tomorrow very slowly.  Doctors made it clear not to rush it.  So, I guess I'm gonna be a good little boy and do what they say.  After all, the past couple of nights have been the best sleep I've had in months so why argue.  Right?

Small Pecan Wood Hollow Form Bowl

There is something about hollow form bowls that gains attention.  And if it is turned from some beautiful wood such as pecan, it gets even more attention.  And, believe it or not the smaller they are the harder they can be to hollow out.  This particular bowl is 5 ¾” on the outside and the inside lip is 3” in diameter.  The height is 3” with a depth of 2 ½”.  The volume measures at 2 cups to the brim.  This is a great bowl for candy or nuts and other tasty items.  Of course you might use it as a catch all bowl for keys and change.  Some might even use it to hold a large diameter candle.  It’s gonna look good no matter what you use it for.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil.  Then the bowl was finished with a walnut oil and shellac mixture.  Also, while the applicator was soaked with the oil and shellac it was dipped in some walnut oil based wax for added beauty.  17Sep18  BLP198

Savory Cottonwood Serving Bowl

There are many things about this smallish sized cottonwood bowl that make it a savory piece to own.  First of all is it’s size and capacity.  Measured to the brim this bowl holds 4 cups.  That is a lot more than a lot of folks think.  Second thing about this bowl is the grain patterns of the wood along with the spalting that Mamma Nature gave it.  The shape is simple yet nice with a line burned on the outside where the lip is.  You even have where it looks like a knot hole was starting.  All in all a great looking little bowl with lots of uses.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a mixture of walnut oil, walnut oil based wax, and shellac.  This combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  So use the bowl with confidence as a serving bowl for your salads and veggies and whatever else you put in it.  Could even be used as a personal popcorn bowl!  Never forget your popcorn.  5Sep18  BLCW97

Amazing Pecan Wood Natural Edge Bowl

I think amazing is a good word to describe this smallish natural edge bowl.  Turned from pecan, the chances are really good that the bark will stay in place.  Also, this wood is quite nice looking!  When you look at the color and grain pattern you realize that it is hard to beat.  This piece is great for holding candy, nuts and other tasty little treats.  OK.  Yeah.  You might also use it as a catch all bowl for keys and change.  Makes no difference what you use it for it’s gonna look good doing it.  The bowl does hold about 2 cups volume.  The highest point is 3 ¾” and has a depth of 2” measured from the lowest point.  The diameter is 6”.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with spray shellac.  This was used in an effort to keep the bark in place as well as reinforcing it with clear glue.  Enjoy this one of a kind piece!  2Sep18  NEP37

Sumptuous Pecan Wood Serving Bowl

Pecan wood has naturally sumptuous colors and that’s all there is to it.  When you look at the different shades of colors here in this bowl along with some spalting, you have an outstanding bowl.   One nice thing about this bowl is that it has a large capacity.  Measured to the brim it holds ¾ of a gallon.  When you consider the bowl measures 10 ½” in diameter, 4” high, and 3” deep that just ain’t bad at all.  That is a lot of salad, veggies, or even popcorn!  You may use this bowl with confidence as the wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil.  Then it was finished using a mix of walnut oil, walnut oil based wax, and shellac.  This combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  Whether you use this bowl for serving veggies or other tasty items, it will look excellent sitting on your table.  26Aug18  BLP197

Classy Pecan Wood Serving Bowl

This bowl is classy and that’s all there is to it.  After all it is turned from pecan wood which is classy all in it’s own.  Second take a look at the clean lines that define this bowl.  Kinda hard to go wrong with it, that’s for sure.  You are gonna have to look long and hard to find a nicer bowl to be sitting on your table.  Use it as a serving bowl, a display bowl for fruits and nuts, as a salad bowl, and many other uses.  You may use it with confidence as the bowl was sealed with food grade walnut oil.  The finishing was done with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac with the finishing cloth also dipped into some walnut oil based wax.  This helps work the finish into the wood even more.  You may even still feel the grain of the wood some.  Using the combination that I do gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  The volume of the bowl comes to 5 cups measured to the brim.  15Aug18  BLP196  For more info see:
