First thing some folks are gonna say
is what in the world is a nonagon? It’s
a 9 sided object. This pecan bowl has 9
sides. How about that? Seen one before this one? Probably not.
This beautiful wood has such natural coloring and spalting in it that it
almost has a marbled look to it. When
you look at the second photo there is a spot on one side that seems to want to
stay sorta white in color no matter what I do.
So, there it is as it wants to be.
This bowl has simple yet graceful lines to it. You might use it for nuts or candies or other
tasty tidbits. The general diameter is 7
½” with a height of 3” and a depth of 2”.
The volume measures to just over 2 cups.
The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a
walnut oil/shellac mixture. With a
combination like that the bowl has a nice hard long lasting natural
finish. 5Dec18 BLP207

I myself have never ever seen a bowl with sides like this...nonagon, going to remember that name. Just love the colour and that spaulting is just superb. The spot of white on your bowls top edge, I myself have come across this on my turnings from time to time. A beautiful bowl and I am sure will sell fairly fast. Well done Dave.
ReplyDeleteThanky Les! The really hard part on this bowl, besides the set up and cutting out the sides was determining the center point. Ended up using weight center which is hard to go wrong with, for sure. But with multiple side turnings I do try and use the physical center so the inside matches up with the sides evenly. Take care, Les!
