This bowl is something of a landmark
for me. As the title says, it is the 200th
pecan wood bowl. That is actually not
accurate as there was a decent period of time after I started turning that I
did not catalogue the bowls and whatever that I turned. Going by photo records that I have this in
reality is the 340th pecan bowl.
All in all, I have turned not quite 1500 bowls in all woods. But, I need to stick to the official record
of catalogue numbers. Right? Sorta, maybe.
Anyway this bowl has all kinds of things going for it. Wonderful natural colors, spalting, minor
cracks, knotholes, and even a couple of wormholes. Worms are gone, yes. Looking at the large knothole on the inside
you see some amazing red color. I did
not do that. That occurred to my
astonishment and approval naturally with the natural dust and clear glue I
use. How it happened I don’t know but I
do love it. The other knotholes and the
one worm hole on the inside were filled in the same way. The bowl does hold liquids just fine with a
capacity of ¾ gallon. Some of the minor
cracks on the outside I left looking that way but I did reinforce them to make
sure they went nowhere. You even have a
lip for easy holding. The bowl measures
10 ¾” on the outside and has an inside diameter of 9”. The height is 4” with a depth of 3”. In case you need to know the bowl weighs just
a hair over 2 pounds. The wood was
sealed with food grade walnut oil then finished with several coats of a walnut
oil/shellac mixture. This combination
gives the bowl a nice hard natural finish.

Pecan Wood Treasure Box
What have we here? A box turned from beautiful pecan wood truly
worthy of your treasures is what we have!
This creation had several shallow cracks in it after drying and after sanding
it all down really good I decided to fill them.
Some of them was done with powdered copper and some with crushed red
coral. When needed I added some natural
dust. So it is not only amazing it is
colorful! The outside diameter is 5 ¼”
with the inside lip at 3 ¾”. The total
height is 4 ½” and the vessel height is 3 ½”.
The vessel depth is 3” and the volume measured at 2 ½ cups. That can be a lot of treasures. All of the wood was sealed with food grade
walnut oil. The inside was finished with
a walnut oil based wax. The outside and
lid were finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. All provide the box a nice hard long lasting
natural finish. Get it while ya
can!!! 17Oct18 BXP91

Ruggedly Beautiful White Oak Bowl
First of all I feel it is an
accomplishment just getting a white oak bowl finished without any mishaps. After all when you see the cracks that are in
this wood you will understand. Very few
of the cracks go all the way through and I tried very hard to seal them all off
with clear glue and natural dust. The
volume of this bowl measured to ½ gallon.
There is a very small leak in this bowl so it will not hold liquids but
will certainly work with anything else.
The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a
walnut oil/shellac mixture. Using this
combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish. The diameter of the bowl is 10 ¼” with a height
of 3” and a depth of 2 ½”. This rustic
gem should work with anybody’s décor and will make an excellent centerpiece
full of fruits and nuts for the holidays.

Delightful White Oak Pedestal Bowl
Without any discussion, I think all
will look at this bowl and agree that it is delightful! With the grain patterns that naturally come
with White Oak, along with the coloring make this a bowl that will work with pretty
much any décor. You can just picture
this bowl sitting on your table full of nuts and other tasty treats. For it’s size I think with it holding 3 cups
is really handy. The diameter is 7 ¾”
with a height of 2 3/4”. The depth comes
to 1 ½”. After sanding the wood was
sealed with food grade walnut oil. Then
it was finished with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac a bit heavy on the
shellac. This bowl is not meant to hold
liquids. It may or may not but just keep
in mind that was not the intent of the turner.
One of a kind so don’t snooze on this.

Ornate Pecan Spice/Salt Box
This naturally ornate box turned from
lovely pecan wood is great whether you might be a professional chef or an at
home cook. It holds ¾ cup of your
favorite spice or salt. You may use it
with total confidence as the wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and
finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.
The inside of the box does follow the contour of the outside with a
general thickness of around 1/8”. The
diameter is 3” with a total height of 4 ¼”.
The vessel height is 3” and vessel depth of 2 ½”. Of course now some of you might be a bit of a
rebellious and sneaky spirit and use it to hide your personal stash of
M&M’s! 3Oct18 BXP90

Small & Colorful White Oak Bowl
White Oak gives off a really nice
warm and rustic feeling, doesn’t it? The
wonderful brown with a touch of lighter color really make this a beautiful
bowl. And, when you add the crushed
turquoise into the knot hole area and a crack, you really have something
exquisite here! Though it is not an
overly big bowl, it certainly has many uses.
Use it for fruits and nuts or candies or even a catch all bowl for keys
and change. Anyway you go with it this
bowl will look good. The wood was sealed
with food grade walnut oil. Then the
finishing was done with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac with some walnut
oil based wax added for a really durable natural finish. The bowl is 8 ½” in diameter, 2 ½” high, and
1 ¾” deep. The volume measures out to 3
½ cups. Not bad, not bad at all. 2Oct18
