Sumptuous Hackberry Pedestal Bowl

Yes, I think this bowl is sumptuous looking.  If you look at the wonderful spalting mixed in with the natural colors of hackberry, I think you will agree.  There is even a couple of lines in the bottom that appear to go through the wood but do not.  But I filled them in with clear glue and natural dust to give a nice smooth surface.  When measuring the volume of this bowl it held 4 cups of water just fine.  The diameter is 7 ½” and 4” at the base.  The height is 4 ½” and the depth 2 ½”.  The simple clean lines of this bowl make it one that you will love to have sitting on your table.  Folks are gonna ask you about it, no doubt.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  With a combination such as that gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  28Jan19  BLHB72

5 Sided Hackberry Pedestal Candy/Nut Bowl

Now ain’t this a nice little gem of a bowl?  It has all kinds of things going for it.  Nice natural colors, good grain patterns, spalting that really adds to the piece, it’s multisided and it is also a pedestal bowl.  What more would you ask for?  No one is gonna tell you that you must put either nuts or candy in this bowl.  Use it as a catch all bowl sitting on a sideboard.  Lots of uses and it is very lightweight as well being turned from hackberry.  The diameter is about 6” with a height of 4 ¼” and a depth of 1 ¾” measured to the lower sides.  The volume measured to 1 ½ cups.  The wood was sealed with a couple of coats of food grade walnut oil.  Then the bowl was finished with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac.  This combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  25Jan19  BLHB71

Tasteful Pecan Wood Candy/Nut Dish

Tasteful is just one of the words that come to mind when I look at this fine dish that is excellent for putting candy or nuts in.  Not that those are the only things you might use it for.  Someone might use it as a catch all for keys and change.  It would even work as a candle holder for a 2” or larger candle if you wished.  No matter what use you decide of for it being it is turned from beautiful pecan wood it will look great!  The outside diameter of this dish is 8 ½”.  The inner diameter of the dish is 6” and it has a depth of about ½”.  The height is 1 ¾”.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  A combination such as this gives the dish a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  22Jan19  SDP57

Flared 4 Sided Pecan Wood Jar

You have to admit this is an amazing and unusual shaped jar.  Not every person is gonna have one of these.  But, after seeing a lot of people are going to want one.  Turned from beautiful pecan wood that naturally shows you wonders of Mamma Nature.  You have for rustic appearances worm holes, spalting and even a couple of rough spots that would not sand out.  The lid has a little wiggle room to allow for the wood swelling due to high humidity.  The total height is 4 ½”, the length is 7” and the width is 6 ½”.  As you might have noticed the sides are not exactly even.  I decided to leave that alone as it adds to the handcrafted look.  The vessel depth is 2 ¼” and the volume is 2 cups.  That is a a very large handful and more of pistachios.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  Using a combination such as that gives the jar a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  A nice addition to any rustic wood working aficionado’s collection.  18Jan19  BXP95

Gorgeous Pecan Wood Crotch Bowl

Gorgeous?  Yes.  Rustic in appearance?  Of course!  Folks who get this type of bowl are doing so because of the unusual appearance of them.  I was even successful in remembering to get a couple of photos of the wood before I started turning it to give you a perspective of the project.  I admit this type of turning can make you kinda pucker sometimes while spinning the wood.  With the unusual shape, you get a sound that reminds you of a propeller.  And, sometimes these come off the lathe and make you duck!  This wood is absolutely beautiful.  It is pecan after all.  The added spalting, natural edge and tiny knotholes really make it stand out.  The widest point of the bowl is 14” and the narrowest is about 1 ½”.  The height is 2 ¼”.  The bowl diameter is 8 ½” and the depth is 1 ½”.  I went on and measured the volume even though this kind of bowl is used more for displaying fruits and nuts and such.  That came to 4 cups.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  This combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  16Jan19  BLP210

Exquisitely Shaped Hackberry Bowl

When people see this bowl sitting on your table, they are gonna ask about it.  You know it.  I know it.  After all the natural coloring of hackberry with the magnificent way the spalting runs in it makes it really stand out from others.  Now this bowl may be used as a serving bowl for salads, veggies as well as smashed spuds.  You might also use it as a display bowl for fruits and nuts and pretty much anything else you want to put in it.  Use the bowl with confidence as the wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil.  Then the bowl was finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture with a bit of walnut oil based wax added while being rubbed in.  After that the bowl was buffed to a nice luster.  You will feel on the outside of the bowl in some areas where the wood is slightly burred.  It was sanded as far as I thought was a good idea without making the sides too thin.  The bowl is 12 ¼” in diameter at the four corners and 9 ¼” squared.  The height at the corners is 5” and 4” and the low side.  The volume measures at ¾ gallon.  That is a lot of salad or whatever tasty stuff you put in the bowl.  14Jan19  BLHB70
