Elegant Cottonwood Trinket Box

There are times when the simplest of designs can be the most elegant of all.  This beautiful box turned from cottonwood is a prime example of that.  Clean and simple lines make this a trinket box anybody will be proud to own.  I know I uses pistachios for the photos but you may use it for anything you want.  It does hold 1 full cup so that’s not a bad amount at all.  The total height of the box is 4 ½” with a diameter of 4”.  The vessel height is 3 ¼” and depth is 2 ½”.  The wood was sealed with two coats of food grade walnut oil and then it was finished with two coats of rubbed in wax that is walnut oil based.  This gives the box a nice natural long lasting finish.  The finish is renewable with regular kitchen olive oil when needed.  21Jul18  BXCW2    For more info see:

P.S.  We are in a heat wave right now.  When I finished this it was 104 outside and my shop showed 101.  Even with all the fans going.  Oh, well.

Pecan Wood Natural Edge Centerpiece Bowl

I think most anybody would be really happy having this bowl sitting on their table as a centerpiece.  After all, it has bark and the beautiful color of pecan wood.  One problem that a turner runs into while turning a piece such as this is the final sanding.  Sometimes you have to decide whether you are going to get that particular spot and risk damaging your hand one way or the other, or just get it the best you can.  You will find a couple of spots on this piece that are like that.  On the ends of the main body you can have some nuts or whatever sitting there as it is concave for that purpose.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture giving a nice hard long lasting finish.  The bark was reinforced with clear glue.  The main body is 10 ¾” long and 9” wide.  The bowl is 6 ½” in diameter, 2 ¾” at the highest point, 1 ¾” deep and has a volume measuring at 1 ½ cups.  You not find another bowl like this one.  17Jul18  NEP36  For more info see:

Elegant Cottonwood Trinket Bowl

Elegant?  I think the shape of this smallish bowl is certainly elegant.  Nice simple smooth lines turned from a nice looking wood.  How can you go wrong with that?  Now I called it a trinket bowl, but you may certainly use it for nuts, candies or anything else you might want.  After all the wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a couple of coats of a walnut oil based wax.  Using a combination such as this gives the bowl a nice long lasting natural finish.  The bowl is 8” long, 5 ¾” wide, 2 ¾” high, 1 ½” deep.  It has a measured capacity of 1 ½ cups up to the lower brim of the bowl.  14Jul18  BLCW95  For more info see:

Winged Pecan Wood Goodie Bowl

You might want to call this bowl cute or even snazzy.  No matter what you might call it the fact that it is a great bowl for goodies is undeniable.  Now your goodies may be M&M’s as in the photos, or pistachios, or some other tasty treat that trips your trigger.  Seeing this bowl is turned from pecan wood it has a sumptuous natural beauty.   The wood was first sealed with two rubbed in coats of food grade walnut oil.  Then it was finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture that was rubbed in as well.   This gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  The bowl is 6 ¾” long and 4 ½” wide.  The height is 1 ¾” and the depth is 1 ¼”.  The volume measures to about 1 cup.  8Jul18  BLP191  For more info see:

Canister Style Pecan Spice Box

Nothing like looking at something turned from pecan wood to make you feel warm and fuzzy, is there?  Nope.  This wonderful looking spice box is no exception.  Of course you might also want to keep herbs, teas, and even a small stash of M&M’s in it!  Some folks might want to keep some spare change in it as well.  So many uses there is no way to list them all.  Shaped like a standard canister with straight walls, and a flat interior bottom it holds a nice ¾ cup in volume.  The diameter is 3 ½” with a total height of 3 ¾”.  The vessel height is 2 ¼” and the vessel depth is 1 ¾”.  The wood was first sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture.  With this combination the box has a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  The knob on the lid has an unusual gnarling in it that was actually unintentional but I decided it looked cool and left it.  2Jul18  BXP89   For more info see:
