10 3/4" Cottonwood Pie/Cake Stand

I say give me pie or cake!  And, put it on this stand and place it in the middle of your table.  You know it’s gonna look really good, don’t you?  Certainly large enough in diameter to handle a standard cake or pie as it is 10 ¾” in diameter.  The height of this stand is 2” and the base diameter is 4 ¼”.   Extremely lightweight so those who have arthritis problems will have no problems with this stand.  Of course you can put whatever you want on it.  Doesn’t have to be pies or cakes.  There is a slight drop from the outside rim going towards the center point to reduce slippage.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a couple of coats of a walnut oil based wax.  One of a kind so don’t miss this one!  28Nov17  SDCW8 For more info see:

9 3/4" Covered Cottonwood Serving Bowl

Cottonwood is a beautiful wood that makes some of the most gorgeous bowls and such that you have ever seen.  This covered bowl is no exception.  This has so many different uses there is no way I can come close to listing them all here.  But to name a few some might use it as a centerpiece for nuts and candies or other tasty morsels.  Some might use it for tortillas.  Others might use it to keep their treasures in.  It will look really good no matter what use you put it to.  Measured to the brim the bowl part holds 4 cups of liquid.  The outside diameter is 9 ¾” with a total height of 4 ½”.  The vessel height is 3” and depth is 2”.  The lid has about 1/8” play in it to accommodate any wood swelling that might occur.  The wood was sealed with two coats of food grade walnut oil.  The wood soaked up the first coat so fast I decided it needed a second one.  The piece was finished using a walnut oil based wax.  With a combination like this the bowl has a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  26Nov17  SDCW7  For more info see:

Tasteful 11" Cottonwood Serving Bowl

Are you looking for a medium sized wood bowl that would look really good on your table as a centerpiece?  Then you really need to consider this tasteful and warm looking cottonwood bowl.  Not overly large as the diameter is 11” with a height of 2” and a depth of 1 ¼”.  But, it does hold 5 cups of liquid measured to the brim of the bowl!  One other consideration for this bowl is that it is lightweight.  I have not put it on the scale but I can’t picture it weighing over 2 pounds.  The natural colors of this wood make it a favorite with a lot of people.  The wood was first sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mix.  This combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  I mixed the finish where there was just enough shellac to give the bowl a bit of shine, but not overly so.  This way you can still feel the grain of the wood.  25Nov17  BLCW87   For more info see:

6 Cupper Cottonwood Bowl

When you first saw the name of this bowl you probably first wondered what a 6 cupper was.  It simply means that it holds 6 cups measured to the brim!  Cottonwood is a soft wood that is also a bit on the fibrous side.  All that means is that sometimes it is very difficult to get a totally smooth sanded surface over the entire bowl.  To me that just adds a bit to the rustic appeal that I do try to preserve in each piece I turn.  The grain patterns in cottonwood are subtle yet very nice.  The natural coloration of this wood varies so much.  You have a light tan mixed with a medium shade of brown and even some gray.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then it received another two coats.  Then it was finished with a walnut oil based wax.  Using this combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  This type of finish also lets you feel the grain in the wood.  The bowl is 10 ½” in diameter, 2 ½” high, and 1 ¾” deep.  A great bowl for salads and veggies.  You might even use it as a popcorn bowl.  14Nov17    BLCW85 For more info see:

10" Pecan Mortar and Pestle Set

The rather large mortar & pestle set was turned as a custom order.  A lot larger than I normally turn, that's for sure.  It is going to be used commercially for making hummus.  The mortar is 10" in diameter, 6" high, and 5" deep.  The volume is one gallon.  The pestle is 9 1/2" long and 1 1/4" diameter.  I burned the lines in the handle area for decoration and better gripping.  After doing this one I believe I will do a couple more for public consumption, you might say.  Anyway, the wood was sealed with food grad walnut oil and then received two more coats.  It was sanded to 600 grit spinning at 1000 rpm's.  After that I buffed it with pecan shavings spinning at the same speed.  Gives it a nice look.  There was a couple of minor cracks in the lip that I filled with clear glue and pecan dust.

Stylish Pecan Pedestal Bowl

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again.  All bowls don’t have to be huge!  OK?  There are all kinds of uses for small bowls such as this one.  It’s a great size for putting nuts, candies, potpourri, and most anything else you want in it.  And with it being a pedestal style bowl, it will catch the eye of many folks.  After all, not everybody has a pecan pedestal bowl full of M&M’s sitting on their desk or table.  The diameter of this bowl is 4 ½” with a height of 2 ½” and a depth of 1 ½”.  The volume measures up to the brim at 1 cup.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil based wax.  Using a combination like this gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish.  This finish is renewable with olive oil.  Care instructions are included with purchase.  12Nov17  BLP172  For more info see:

Lovely Red Oak Pedestal Bowl

When you look at this jar turned from Red Oak you see some interesting grain patters as well as colors.  When I was sanding this jar I purposely left the inside not as smooth as I did the outside.  This was to give the jar a bit more of a rustic appeal.  Now you may put anything you wish in this jar as the wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and finished with two coats of a walnut oil based wax.  Using this type of finish gives the jar a nice hard long lasting natural finish that allows you to still feel the grain in the wood.  You will find the diameter at 6” with a height of 5” and a depth of 2 ½”.  The volume measures at 3 cups up to the brim.  The lid is inset for a better seal though certainly not airtight.  Ideal for putting your favorite nuts in as well as candies.  Enjoy and take advantage of this one of a kind treasure!  11Nov17  BXRO28   For more info see:
