Now, how about this!?! A truly unique shaped box for your goodies or
treasures. Basic shape is like a flying
saucer, with the interior hollowed out also making this a hollow form
piece. Wasn’t sure just which category
to put it in so I decided on boxes.
Turned from truly magnificent pecan wood, this piece has everything that
would make a rustic fan happy. You have
some worm holes, you have natural edge, you have spalting, and even a knot hole
or two. Just doesn’t get any better than
this. This box holds a nice amount of 3
cups. The outside measures 8 ½” and the
inside lip is 2 ¾”. The total height is
5” and the vessel height is 3 1/4”. The
depth of the vessel is 2 ¾”. The
hollowing of the interior follows the exterior fairly well. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut
oil and then finished with a walnut oil and shellac mixture. A combination such as this gives the box a
nice hard long lasting natural finish.

White Oak 2 Tier Dish
Talking about rustic looking and
multipurpose, this 2 tier dish is amazing.
Turned from rugged looking white oak, it can be looked at being an
accomplishment to finish this piece. Not
only rugged looking, white oak is rugged to turn. Warm natural colors, knot holes, and odd and
end natural wood blemishes, this has it all.
On the top tier there is even a knot hole that goes all the way
through. So if you put anything real
tiny in the top tier it might fall through and land in the bottom tier. The upper diameter is 3 ½” with a depth of
about ½”. The bottom diameter is 6 ¼”
with a depth of around ½”. The total
height is 3 ¾”. The wood was sealed with
food grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. A combination such as this gives the dish a
nice hard long lasting natural finish.

8 1/4" White Oak Dessert Stand
This is the first stand I have
turned from white oak. It brought back
old lessons learned. Be prepared for a
fight if you let the white oak get really dry before turning. Which is exactly what I did. All of my white oak is really dry, therefore
rather on the cantankerous side for turning.
This stand shows some of the typically natural defects in this
wood. You will see cracks and knot holes
throughout. But there is no worry with
those. They add to the rustic appeal of
the stand. Any cracks that were going to
possibly cause any problems in the next several years were reinforced with
clear glue and natural dust. The knot
holes I left alone. The diameter on the
top is 8 ¼” with a base diameter of 3 ½”, just right for stability. The height of the stand is 3 ¼”. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut
oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mix. This combination gives the stand a nice hard
long lasting finish. 13Mar19 SDWO2

8 1/2" White Oak Display Bowl
Looking at this bowl makes me think
back to the saloons in the west back in the 1800’s. The saloons were in the habit of having
either salted peanuts or potato chips in bowls on the bar for the paying
customers. From what I have read both
were loaded with salt for two reasons.
First is the salt was used to help preserve the goodies and also the
salt made the customers thirstier so they drank more. What a concept! I just picture a bowl like this used for
that. This bowl has the usual
characteristics I find in this wood.
Minor cracks throughout and some beautiful warm coloring. This bowl does not hold liquids. You may put whatever else you desire in it as
long as it is more of a solid. Like
nuts, candy, fruits, and even popcorn.
Lots of uses for a bowl like this.
The diameter is 8 ½” with a height of 3” and a depth of 2 ¼”. The volume measured to be 4 cups. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut
oil and finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. This combination gives the bowl a nice hard
long lasting natural finish. 6Mar19 BLWO18
Beautifully Spalted Pecan Wood 2 Tier Dish
This heavily spalted piece is really
something else. First let me say it is
all one piece of wood. No glue or screws
here. Uhuh. This 2 tier dish may be used for such a
variety of things, it will amaze. Use it
for different kinds of nuts like the photos show, or candies, even
jewelry! This dish is certainly rustic
in appearance with all the spalting and the worm holes. The top has a bit of difference in color as
it is more from heartwood whereas the bottom is more outer wood. The wood was all sealed with food grade
walnut oil and then finished with a mixture of walnut oil and shellac. This gives the dish a nice hard long lasting
natural finish. The bottom diameter is
6” with a depth of about a ½”. The upper
diameter is 3 ½” with a depth of ¾”. The
total height of the piece is 3”.
