A lot of people will call this 3
corner bowl cute. OK. It’s cute.
It’s rustic. What more can you ask
for? Oh, yeah. It’s turned from pecan wood. To tell a little secret on myself, this is
actually sort of a failure. This was
going to be a 3 cornered jar, but the lid material did not work out so it
became a bowl. This extremely
lightweight bowl is great for putting your pistachios in or other tasty nuts or
other treats. When you add the knot
holes and grain pattern of this wood, you just cannot go wrong. The wood was sealed with food grade walnut
oil. The finishing was done with a mix
of walnut oil and shellac, light on the shellac for a more subtle sheen. Then it was buffed. The diameter is 6” with a height of 3 ½” and
a depth of 2” measured to the lowest point on the side. The volume measured at 1 ½ cups. Don’t pass this up! 26Nov18

This is really beautiful, I just love the shape. Saying it started out to be a jar but turned into a bowl is just brilliant, that is the mark of a good turner ( some turners would have thrown it onto the rubbish pile ). Colour is nice as well as the shape, I can just see it sat on a sideboard somewhere filled with peanuts at Christmas time. Nicely turned my friend.
ReplyDeleteHi Les! Glad you like it. What you described is what I think of for a bowl like this. Sitting on a sideboard or the like full of nuts. And to think I didn't lose any hide sanding it.
