Mountain Cedar Display Bowl

Now and then every wood turner has worked on a piece that required a degree of pucker power.  You’re all puckered up not knowing if it was gonna hold together or not.  This one did, but not all do.  Taken from the crotch of the tree, this bowl really has some rustic character to it.  I toyed with the idea of using either some turquoise or red coral on it, but decided against it.  I think it came out just fine naturally.  Mountain Cedar, or also known as Juniper, has some nice coloration to it.  Though it does not have the red tint that most folks relate to cedar it does have the cedar odor to it.  Any of the minor cracks were reinforced with clear glue and natural dust.  The length is generally 9” and the width about 7”.   The height is 2” and the depth is about 1 ¾”.  The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with two coats of shellac with some walnut oil based wax mixed in.  All of this gives the bowl a nice natural finish.  14Jun19  BLMC9

  1. Now this is something else, what a shape. Rustic and with a high degree of unusual looks to it. Danger turning at its best, extremely well done Dave, did you count your fingers after turning it lol.
