There were some cracks in this wood that at first I
thought I might fill with either turquoise or maybe some red coral. But, once I really started looking at the
wood I decided against it. So, they were
filled with natural dust. The natural
coloring of this wood is just too good.
You might pick up in the photos a flaw now and then, but that just adds
to the rustic appeal of the jar. I am
not gonna say you gotta put cookies in this jar. It will hold 5 cups of anything you
want. Use it with confidence as the
wood was first sealed with food grade walnut oil. The finishing was done with a mixture of
walnut oil and shellac with some walnut oil based wax to aid in the smoothness
of the finish. This combination gives
the jar a nice hard long lasting natural finish. The outside diameter is 8 ¼” and the inside
diameter is 5 ¾”. The total height is 5
¼”. The vessel height is 4” and the
depth is 3 ½”. 11Nov18 BXP93

Simply Nice Hackberry Serving Bowl
Yes, this bowl is simply nice. Most everybody says hackberry is nice
looking, and it certainly is. Look at
the natural dark and light colors it has.
Add the spalting lines and you really have a bowl worthy of sitting on
your table. Use it as a serving bowl for
veggies or as a display bowl for fruits and nuts. And don’t forget it would be great for
popcorn! Lest we forget the good tasting
popcorn. This is the first bowl from a
new batch of hackberry logs that I just acquired. This bowl is 9 ¾” in diameter, 3” high, and 2
¼” deep. The volume came to measuring
about ½ gallon. The wood was sealed with
food grade walnut oil. It was then finished
with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. This
gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish. The lip starts at 1/8” and then the sides
taper down to the center. The bowl
weighs in at a nice 1 ½ pounds.

Spalted 8 Sided Pecan Wood Bowl
You just gotta love a bowl like
this! Eight sides, four of them at 4 ¼”
and three at 3”. Add all of the spalting
and natural colors that pecan wood has a really nice habit of displaying, you
end up with a spectacular bowl! The top
of the bowl is beveled outward and you have a lip on the underside for ease in
handling. Though this bowl does hold
liquids I had more in mind for it being used for nuts and fruits and other
tasty treats. Sit this bowl on your
table and folks are gonna ask about it.
The width is 8 ½” with a height of 3”.
The depth is a bit over 2” and the volume measured to the brim comes to
4 cups. The wood was sealed with food
grade walnut oil and then finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. This combination gives the bowl a nice hard
long lasting natural finish.

Extraordinary Pecan Wood Jar
Oh, yeah. I think
this jar is definitely extraordinary!
Not because of the work I did, but because of the natural beauty of the
wood. The colors and grain patterns are
most beautiful. Since this jar holds 2
cups in volume, you may put all kinds of things in it. Great for hiding your personal stash of
pistachios, M&M’s (gotta get them in there), and all kinds of other tasty
treats. Then again you might use it for
putting some of your gorgeous valuables in it.
The outside diameter is 4 ½” and the inner lip diameter is 2 ½”. The total height is 7 ¼” and the body height
is 5 ¾”. Then you have the vessel depth
at 3”. You will find that all the wood
was sealed with food grade walnut oil.
The inside of the jar was finished with a second coat of the walnut oil
only. The outside was finished with a
mixture of walnut oil and shellac and walnut oil based wax. Using this combination gives the jar a long
lasting natural finish. One of a kind
and downright splindiferous so get it while you can. 26Oct18

200th Pecan Wood Bowl
This bowl is something of a landmark
for me. As the title says, it is the 200th
pecan wood bowl. That is actually not
accurate as there was a decent period of time after I started turning that I
did not catalogue the bowls and whatever that I turned. Going by photo records that I have this in
reality is the 340th pecan bowl.
All in all, I have turned not quite 1500 bowls in all woods. But, I need to stick to the official record
of catalogue numbers. Right? Sorta, maybe.
Anyway this bowl has all kinds of things going for it. Wonderful natural colors, spalting, minor
cracks, knotholes, and even a couple of wormholes. Worms are gone, yes. Looking at the large knothole on the inside
you see some amazing red color. I did
not do that. That occurred to my
astonishment and approval naturally with the natural dust and clear glue I
use. How it happened I don’t know but I
do love it. The other knotholes and the
one worm hole on the inside were filled in the same way. The bowl does hold liquids just fine with a
capacity of ¾ gallon. Some of the minor
cracks on the outside I left looking that way but I did reinforce them to make
sure they went nowhere. You even have a
lip for easy holding. The bowl measures
10 ¾” on the outside and has an inside diameter of 9”. The height is 4” with a depth of 3”. In case you need to know the bowl weighs just
a hair over 2 pounds. The wood was
sealed with food grade walnut oil then finished with several coats of a walnut
oil/shellac mixture. This combination
gives the bowl a nice hard natural finish.

Pecan Wood Treasure Box
What have we here? A box turned from beautiful pecan wood truly
worthy of your treasures is what we have!
This creation had several shallow cracks in it after drying and after sanding
it all down really good I decided to fill them.
Some of them was done with powdered copper and some with crushed red
coral. When needed I added some natural
dust. So it is not only amazing it is
colorful! The outside diameter is 5 ¼”
with the inside lip at 3 ¾”. The total
height is 4 ½” and the vessel height is 3 ½”.
The vessel depth is 3” and the volume measured at 2 ½ cups. That can be a lot of treasures. All of the wood was sealed with food grade
walnut oil. The inside was finished with
a walnut oil based wax. The outside and
lid were finished with a walnut oil/shellac mixture. All provide the box a nice hard long lasting
natural finish. Get it while ya
can!!! 17Oct18 BXP91

Ruggedly Beautiful White Oak Bowl
First of all I feel it is an
accomplishment just getting a white oak bowl finished without any mishaps. After all when you see the cracks that are in
this wood you will understand. Very few
of the cracks go all the way through and I tried very hard to seal them all off
with clear glue and natural dust. The
volume of this bowl measured to ½ gallon.
There is a very small leak in this bowl so it will not hold liquids but
will certainly work with anything else.
The wood was sealed with food grade walnut oil and then finished with a
walnut oil/shellac mixture. Using this
combination gives the bowl a nice hard long lasting natural finish. The diameter of the bowl is 10 ¼” with a height
of 3” and a depth of 2 ½”. This rustic
gem should work with anybody’s décor and will make an excellent centerpiece
full of fruits and nuts for the holidays.
